Markham’s 2016 Contemporary Music Festival is pleased to present a provocative concert of mesmerizing modern music, dance and drama.

A bargain with the devil leads a soldier to a life of hardship and heartache in Stravinsky’s Histoire du Soldat.

The dissolution of tonality combined with melodic and harmonic richness in Kammersymphonie by Schönberg is sure to excite an inner frenzy worthy of its first performances that resulted in unhinged riots.

Maestro Kristian Alexander allies the Kindred Spirits Orchestra in their concluding concert of the 2016 Markham Contemporary Music Festival.

This summer the Greek sun-god evokes light and generous integrity through Dutch composer Nielsen’s Helios Overture. Antonin Dvořák’s popular Violin Concerto will undoubtedly evoke instant conviction through wistful and heroic themes. “A joyful little piece” is what Shostakovich labeled his Symphony No. 9; sure to be a joyous end to spectacular season.
