Opening Night Gala and Silent Auction

Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 8:00 P.M.
Flato Markham Theatre for the Performing Arts

Join Maestro Kristian Alexander while he leads the Kindred Spirits Orchestra in celebrating the first concert of the season. César Frank’s dark and haunting Le Chasseur Maudit paints the portrait of an accursed huntsman condemned to be pursued by demons for an eternity. Child sensation Anson Hui rises to the challenge of performing Beethoven’s vigorous Concerto for Piano No. 1. Symphonie Fantastique by Berlioz, a truly programmatic work, dramatically tells the story of love, passion, despair, hallucination and death.

WINTER DREAMS

Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 8:00 P.M.
Flato Markham Theatre for the Performing Arts

Stay warm this December as the KSO presents a concert of passionate music filled with Russian folklore, romantic virtuosity and winter dreams. The program starts off with the Overture to Ruslan and Ludmila, Glinka’s opera based on Pushkin’s majestic poem of destined lovers.  The Kindred Spirits Orchestra’s own concertmaster Crystal Ye takes center stage with performing Bruch’s heroic Violin Concerto no. 1.  “Winter Dreams” is what Tchaikovsky subtitled his first symphony; a suitable title for a work by its struggling and fervid composer.

A picture may be worth a thousand words but music will render you speechless.  Dukas’ well-known Sorcerer’s Apprentice magically colours the concert hall with atmospheric grandeur and spectacle.  Lyrical grace and virtuosity empower the Piano Concerto No. 2 by the brooding and adventurous Beethoven.  Wallow in the glory of Pictures at an Exhibition; Ravel’s splendid orchestration of Mussorgsky’s musical portraits, inspired by the paintings of a lost friend.

Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 8:00 P.M.
Flato Markham Theatre for the Performing Arts

Revel in riveting orchestral repertoire as the KSO presents some of music’s most memorable melodies. Brahms’ distinguished Academic Festival Overture has encouraged students and listeners alike for over a century with its rousing, pompous vigour. Rising star Leonid Nediak joins the orchestra in illuminating Rachmaninoff’s lush and animated Piano Concerto No. 2. Brilliantly weaved folksongs fill the concert hall as Symphony No. 2 “Little Russian” by Tchaikovsky rouses mighty sentiments.
